Not useful for the owner builder This book might be useful when you’re trying to decide whether to work with a General Contractor or if you can be a builder-owner and do the contracting yourself. After this decision has been made, this book becomes useless. If you’ve decided to be an owner-builder, you will receive very little benefit from this book. Almost pure text book without visual and graphic elements. Check lists are rudimentary and almost entirely useless. This becomes even more evident after you’ve read other books on the same topic such as Kent Lesters “Contracting your Home”, which is a true hands-on guide. For me as an owner-builder this book didn’t provide what I needed.
Awesome guide to let you know that you’re way in over your head If you’re capable of building your own house, you don’t need this book. This book is an awesome way to become aquainted with the fact that you shouldn’t be building your own house. Don’t get me wrong, I’m handy. I helped my parents build their house, literally from scratch. I picked this up, went into information overload, deftly placed it on the bookshelf, and bought a house that was already built. Done. I plan to lend it out if anyone starts talking crazy.
it has been very informative and has several web sites to visit which has provided even more good information.
